Cancer Patients: Pre/Post surgery holistic therapies to do at home to enhance your healing, detoxing and well-being

GINGER COMPRESS for hands and feet.  Many cancer patients experience peripheral neuropathy, damage to the nerves, as a side effect from chemotherapy. This treatment can be used during and after chemotherapy.  Grate 3 inches of root ginger into a bowl/foot bowl, add boiling water and let steep until cool enough to submerse the hands/ feet. Soak hands/feet in the bowl until water is lukewarm. Remove hands/feet and dry. This same infusion can be used again if within the next 24 hours, leave in fridge until needed and then heat in a pot (but do NOT BOIL). Discard after the second treatment. Please Note: If you are suffering from numbness, please check temperature with your elbow to avoid the water being too hot.

DRY BODY BRUSHING is great for virtually EVERYBODY!  The skin is our largest organ and plays a vital role in ridding the body of toxins.  Dry body brushing a helpful technique to open pores, stimulate and detoxify the lymphatic system.

Benefits include:

  • Stimulates blood and lymphatic flow
  • Removes dry skin cells
  • Accelerates elimination of toxins
  • Stimulates production of sebum
  • Reduces appearance of cellulite
  • Strengthens the immune system

Purchase a body brush with a long handle (to access your back) with soft, natural bristles.  Always keep your brush dry; never wet it.  Dry body brushing can be done DAILY (best in the a.m. before your shower) and only takes 3-5 minutes!    The technique is simple using circular motions with the brush for the joints, hands and feet and long, sweeping motions for going up the legs and arms. Start with your feet (top and bottom); going up the legs (front and back); buttocks area; make circular clock-wise motions on the abdomen; across the chest area towards the armpit; sweep up the arms to the armpit, starting at the fingers; work down the neck towards the chest and back. Avoid the face and genital areas.  Always work towards the heart!

Precautions:  If you have sensitive skin, eczema, a rash or inflamed area on the body, avoid dry body brushing.  If you have a port, avoid brushing directly on and around the port area.  Brushing with a hard bristle brush, or brushing too vigorously, or too frequently, may cause micro-tears in the skin, which may lead to infection.
